Belarusian vaccine against COVID-19 to be registered in December
Ministry of Health plans to register a domestic vaccine against coronavirus in December 2023, BelTA informs, referring to TV channel STV.
Head of Science Department of the Ministry of Health Margarita Dosina said that, contrary to rumors, this drug will be classic, in the form of a solution. "At the moment we have already fully developed a prototype, i.e. a vial with the vaccine has been obtained under experimental conditions, which has already been tested on experimental animals. Preliminary results showed that it is absolutely safe and, most importantly, effective. Now we are working on experimental batches, i.e. the so-called technology transfer takes place, when laboratory technology is transferred to industrial production. This year we will have three pilot batches. Pre-clinical studies will begin soon. After the efficacy of the drug is proven, clinical trials will begin. It is planned that in December we will apply for registration of the drug," she specified.
Margarita Dosina notes that the domestic vaccine will protect against the new strain COVID-19. "Our vaccine is specifically designed for it. Ministry of Health constantly monitors the strains circulating in Belarus. If we notice that there are new strains that may affect, for example, immunogenic activity, they will be introduced into the domestic vaccine. It's an open platform allowing to adjust the medication to the strains specific to the territory of Belarus," she added.
The Ministry of Health is developing other medications jointly with Russia. Now the development of the allied program "Spinal Systems" has been completed, and the clinical implementation stage is already beginning this year. "Since this program has been a great success, we plan to continue working in this direction. In addition, today an anti-TB vaccine is being prepared, as well as the continuation of the concept on stem cells, because these developments are advanced," concluded Margarita Dosina.
