Number of victims of human trafficking growing
The number of victims of human trafficking is growing, despite the efforts of the international community to confront this threat. This was reported at a briefing timed to the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.
According to the International Organization for Migration, there are almost 40 million victims of human trafficking in the world today. 70 percent of them are women and children. For our country, the fight against this global problem is one of the priorities of activity in the international arena.
In recent years, Belarus has been working to improve coordination of actions to combat human trafficking among the states of the world. By the way, the World Day against Trafficking in Persons is celebrated today, it was established, in part, thanks to the efforts of our country.
The problem of human trafficking exists in all countries, regardless of the level of development of the state, experts emphasize. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 68 people became victims in our country this year. In July, a joint special operation was conducted in Belarus and Israel to detain seven citizens involved in the organization of sex business.
