Independence Day celebrated at Belarusian Embassy in Moscow
The peoples of Belarus and Russia are united by the responsibility to preserve common memory and truth. The Belarusian Embassy in Moscow hosted a reception in honor of Independence Day. Russian diplomats, State Duma deputies, economists, well-known public and political figures came to congratulate the country. In his speech the Ambassador of Belarus pointed out that the emotional feeling of Independence Day is very close to Victory Day - there is the same great joy that the Belarusian land will no longer know the horrors of war and hope that in the unity and brotherhood with Russia we will remain a strong, independent and peaceful state.
Oleg Novitsky, pilot-cosmonaut, Hero of Russia:
“Undoubtedly, for me it is a very significant holiday as a Belarusian and as a citizen of Russia. I am happy that we have been and will keep pace with each other. We have the same life philosophy, we have the same dreams and plans. I will be very happy if a citizen of Belarus flies into space next year. Belarusians will never change! It is one of the most reliable partners of Russia, one of the calmest, most patient nations, one of the most decent ones.”
Leonid Kalashnikov, chairman of the committee on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and ties with compatriots:
“I have to give credit to Belarus - it remembers what happened, and sometimes it is worth learning from it. I believe that our future is here, it is with our holidays and our values.”
