Igor Korotchenko: Escape of Polish soldier to Belarus is unprecedented case in modern history

The motives that guided the Polish soldier are obvious. He wasn’t willing to participate in the illegal actions in the territory of Poland. And this is a reason for a broad international response. It is obvious that official Warsaw is obliged to respond to all the accusations he made and investigate them.

“Of course, the transfer of a Polish serviceman to the territory of Belarus and the application for political asylum is an unprecedented thing in modern history. If Poland is a legal and European country committed to the norms of democracy, any threats that his man deserves to be shot and so on are inappropriate. The man reported very serious facts, these facts need to be investigated, including by the Polish prosecutor's office. Obviously, the Belarusian authorities will also conduct investigations, because we are talking about extrajudicial executions reported by this Polish soldier, which took place, as he said, I emphasize, in the Polish territory. But this is also a reason for the reaction of the Polish law enforcement structures and the Prosecutor General's Office, because the situation is unprecedented. Of course, human rights organizations, including European and international ones, should pay attention to this case.”
