The information about the earthquake near Lida is fake, Belarusian seismologists did not register any tremors, Sputnik reports referring to the Center for Geophysical Monitoring of Belarus National Academy of Sciences.
Yesterday, the Internet began to spread information that an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 had occurred last weekend in the west of the country, 28 km off Lida and 21 km off Novogrudok. The epicenter was located at a depth of 10 km. Information about the tremors was published on their websites by the Euro-Mediterranean seismological center, which is located in France, as well as by the German seismological network.
"Our sensors have not recorded anything like that. The seismological situation in Belarus is still calm," said chief researcher of the Center for Geophysical Monitoring of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Arkady Aronov.
According to him, an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 would have been quite perceptible and the waves would have reached Minsk.
