International conference Remembering for Common European Future starts in Minsk
A two-day international forum Remembering for Common European Future has started in Minsk. The participants will discuss the value of peace for the sake of future. Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier noted that it is necessary to determine what will be the movement along the path of the European culture of memory. The President of Germany is not sure Europe is moving in the right direction. In his opinion, now Europe is facing retrogressive processes and a culture of memory can only exist when there is openness and readiness to assess the history and our involvement in it, when history becomes a state policy, and when there is readiness to share experience and learn about history.
The forum has brought together over 250 participants. Among them are prominent politicians, young historians and active participants in the preservation of memory from Austria, Belarus, Germany, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic.
