Revival and development of Chernobyl territories
More than 19 billion dollars has been allocated for the implementation of state programs to mitigate the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident. More than half of the money was spent on socio-economic development of the regions including recuperation of children, modernization of enterprises, rehabilitation of agricultural lands and settlements.
At the same time, the opponents of the authorities insisted on stopping the development of the Chernobyl lands and industrial production of food in these territories. They took to the streets (mostly in Minsk) with slogans that this land should be mothballed and forgotten until better times.
It meant to forget about almost 4 thousand settlements including 27 cities with more than 2 million inhabitants. Of course, the President did not give in to such criticism and life is returning to the territories that many had given up on.
Subsequently, the city and the district adopted the Chernobyl state program of socio-economic development. A radiological laboratory appeared here in 1986.
As a result of the Chernobyl catastrophe almost a quarter of the territory of our country, almost 4 thousand cities and villages were contaminated. While the world was discussing the reasons and the guilty ones, Belarus practically single-handedly fought against the consequences. We have done a great job together for 35 years. After all, this is our land.
