Olga Chupris: Representatives of about 50 states express willing to become citizens of Belarus

"They have never felt like strangers in Belarus. Who applies for Belarusian citizenship and why? Representatives of about 50 states express their wish to become citizens of our country. This was reported today by deputy head of President’s Office Olga Chuprys. A visiting session of the Commission on Citizenship Affairs under the President of Belarus was held on June 28.

This time over 400 people from 20 countries applied for Belarusian passports. As a rule, the commission examines the cases of these people in absentia, but this meeting was held in a different format. We talked to some people about their questions, clarified the reasons for their move to Belarus.

The Commission on Citizenship Issues has been working very actively in recent years. There have been 23 meetings over the last four and a half years. More than 10,000 applications for citizenship were submitted to the President for consideration. Of these, 6,654 were proposals for citizenship of the Republic of Belarus made by the commission. There is a perception that applicants for citizenship of our country are mostly citizens of post-Soviet countries. However, that is not true. I can assure you that people from about 50 countries want to become citizens of our country.
