Russian Ambassador to Belarus speaks about conditions of detention of S. Sapega
Moscow is not putting pressure on Minsk in connection with the arrest of Sofia Sapega. Russian Ambassador to Belarus Yevgeny Lukyanov told reporters today after the meeting with the Chairman of the Lower House of Parliament Vladimir Andreichenko.
According to the lawyers of S. Sapega, she feels well, the conditions of her detention are adequate. It is clear that being in a pre-trial detention center probably does not bring joy. Investigative actions are underway, we are waiting for their completion and formulation already based on the results of these investigative actions. We are not putting any pressure on the actions of the Belarusian authorities in this context. We carry out our powers under the consular convention and will continue to do so
Sapega is a citizen of Russia. She was detained in Minsk together with blogger Protasevich after an emergency landing of the plane of Irish airline Ryanair, which followed the Athens-Vilnius route.
Just the day before, a similar incident occurred with the Dublin-Krakow flight. The plane landed in Berlin due to the threat of a bomb on board. True, in this case, the incident continues to be ignored by the international organizations.
We will see what ICAO and the governments of many countries, which discussed the landing in Minsk on May 23 so actively, have to say on this matter. It’s curious to compare.
However, mass silence is already a clear confirmation of double approaches to events that are identical in meaning.
