Fire service of Belarus celebrates its 165th anniversary
Today, the fire service of Belarus celebrates its 165th anniversary. On 25 July, 1853, the Minsk provincial government and the City Duma took the decision to create a fire department.
The most tragic in the history of the Belarusian fire service were the times of the Great Patriotic War. At that time, women had to work for the service and fight fires that started from air raids. Another page of the firemen's chronicle of Belarus is the tragedy at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, when hundreds of firefighters risked their lives to save millions.
Today, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus carries out a whole range of emergency rescue operations from extinguishing fires to dealing with accidents at oil and gas fields. Belarusian rescuers have taken part in many international exercises and humanitarian missions.
