Scientists developing technology for growing watermelons in Belarusian latitudes

Scientists of the Academy of Sciences are developing a unique technology for growing watermelons in Belarusian latitudes. They received the first samples of seedlings, resistant to low temperatures at Grodno Zonal Institute of Plant Growing. grafted Watermelon sprouts were grafted on a pumpkin, which grows in our climate. A similar technology in the Republic is being mastered for the first time. Grafted plants are already planted in the soil, drip irrigation is supplied to each sprout. Scientists hope to get a yield of sweet berries twice as high as usual. L At the same time, the taste of the Belarusian watermelon will be no worse than, for example, the Central Asian one.

The first harvest of grafted watermelons at the Institute of Plant Industry will be harvested by the end of summer. The technology worked out in Grodno Region is planned to be extended to all regions of the country.
