National Bank of Belarus extends period of exchange of old banknotes

Belarus has established an additional period for exchange of banknotes issued in 2000 for those of 2009, reports "SB. Belarus Today.

Banknotes, withdrawn from circulation, will be available for exchange for the new ones from September 1, 2022 to December 31, 2024 at office of the National Bank, located at 6, Tolstogo Street, Minsk.

Banknotes will be exchanged without restrictions and without fees. The exchange will be carried out in accordance with the scale of the denomination in the ratio of 10 000:1

It is also specified that banknotes of denomination of Br100 and the banknotes of 2000 sample will be exchanged. The National Bank explained why this is so. The fact is that banknotes of the 2000 sample with denominations from 1 ruble to 50 rubles, inclusive, were not subject to exchange during the Presidential Decree No. 450 "On the denomination of the official monetary unit of the Republic of Belarus" of November 4, 2015.

On August 22, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed the Decree No. 293, which brought the provisions of Decree No. 493 of October 16, 2014 "On the development of non-cash payments" in line with the provisions of the law of April 19, 2022 "On payment systems and payment services."
