Vitebsk turns 1048
Vitebsk immersed in festive atmosphere. The city celebrates its 1048th birthday. It is one of the oldest cities in Belarus. The holiday was opened with a concert in the Summer Amphitheater. Delegations from different parts of our country and from Russia came to congratulate the residents of the city. Many festive locations were prepared for the guests. There was a full house in the Summer Amphitheater.
Festive celebrations were held all over the city. Guests from different parts of Belarus and Russian twin cities came to congratulate Vitebsk on its birthday.
Sergei Gavrilov, acting head of Pskov (Russia):
“The ties are very old, more than twenty years. Pskov and Vitebsk are reliable partner cities. There are a lot of projects that we carry out. We are very pleased that we were invited to the Day of the City.”
Sergey Protopopov, deputy head of administration of Stupino urban district of Moscow Region (Russia):
“We communicate, interact with each other. We want our cities to cooperate within trade, to present Belarusian and Vitebsk products at our markets.”
A gift for the city of artists was prepared by street musicians, performers and gymnasts. Also residents and guests were invited to an open championship in parachuting, concerts, competitions, literary projects. The doors of the City Hall are open from morning to evening. It is from the tower the best view of the city. The guests of the festival also climbed the 146 steps today.
Victory Square was the center of the festival with interactive locations, an exhibition of retro cars, and competitive sites.
On June 26, Vitebsk will celebrate the Day of Liberation from the Nazi invaders
Tomorrow Vitebsk will celebrate Liberation Day from the Nazi invaders. During the occupation the city was almost completely destroyed. When Soviet troops entered Vitebsk, only 118 residents remained. The victims of fascism will be honored with a moment of silence and flowers will be laid at the Eternal Flame.
