Committee on World Food Security condemns unilateral restrictive measures
The Committee on World Food Security has strongly condemned restrictive measures or sanctions.
The 52nd session of the organization, which includes 141 countries, has concluded its work in Rome. And they suddenly realized that the use of unilateral sanctions is a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter (as Belarus has repeatedly pointed out).
However, the West (albeit to its own detriment) continues to wage an economic war against developing countries. And now, despite the voice of collective wisdom, the only country that refused to join the decision is the United States.
For a number of years, Belarusian diplomats have raised the issue of sanctions against our country and their impact on world trade at various venues, said Kirill Petrovsky, Permanent Representative of Belarus to the FAO.
According to him, they also carried out this work in Rome. "It's not like things were easy at first," he noted. "At the initial stage, we were supported by a small group of countries, against which, like Belarus, sanctions were also imposed. We had to talk, we had to explain, we had to quote decisions of the US and the EU, talk about Lithuania's ban on the transit of Belarusian fertilizers, explain how this affects buyers around the world."
Kirill Petrovsky recalled that in 2023, the Committee on World Food Security was only able to adopt a very diplomatic formulation that international trade routes for food and fertilizers should be kept open. In 2024, things went in a completely different way.
