Sincere friendship and mutual understanding - relations between Belarus and Oman are based on such principles. A delegation of our Government is paying an official visit to the Sultanate.
October 14 is the day of talks to define the main areas for bilateral cooperation.
What have already been announced at the meetings?
Belarus is open to new ideas and is ready to discuss joint promising projects in various spheres.
Our relationship is three decades old, but the potential is definitely not fully utilized and certainly not commensurate with our capabilities. Both Belarus and Oman have something to offer to each other. There is point-to-point interaction between ministries, departments through some enterprises. We also have a dialogue at the top level. And positions converge on global issues of world order and regionalism. This is fertile ground for development and contact in other areas, such as economy.
Today we are discussing the joint production of pharmaceuticals in industry, also in science. And the focus is on mutually beneficial contacts. But culture is just as important as economy. This was mentioned by our Prime Minister at a meeting with the Crown Prince of Oman, who is also the Minister of Culture in the Sultanate. Now, cultural and humanitarian relations are a good engine for promoting trade as well as investment.
What was said at the protocol part of the talks?
Roman Golovchenko, Prime Minister of Belarus:
"In 2007, the President of Belarus paid an official visit to Oman. And we've had a very strong, warm relationship ever since. Unfortunately, we have not been able to fully implement all our plans. It was caused by international events, the pandemic, the economic crisis, the disruption of logistics chains, financial ones. But it was cultural relations that developed despite everything. We have exchanged exhibitions of historical or national museums. Oman hosted a tour of Belarusian dance groups. And the Belarusian opera was presented on stage at the Royal Theatre in Oman."
"Our relationship has been going on for decades. We hope that areas of cooperation will continue to expand. As Minister of Culture, I am pleased that communications are developing in this area. Several cultural events have already taken place. Museums also maintain contacts," said SayyidTheyazin bin Haitham Al Said, the Crown Prince of Oman and the Minister of Culture, Sports, & Youth.
Today, the countries are also discussing the Omani Culture Days in Belarus. There is also a dialogue in sports competitions. The Omani beach soccer team was already visiting Minsk when we hosted the II CIS Games last August. And, of course, that experience will continue.
One of the promising areas that was also discussed at this meeting is the exchange of youth projects, cooperation between universities as well as scientific schools, because some ideas and decisions of the young today can be a good support for the development of various industries already in the future of both Oman and Belarus.
