UN Security Council calls for ceasefire in Middle East
The UN Security Council has issued a clear message "in favor of stability and a ceasefire" in the Middle East.
The world diplomats have called for an end to the increasing attacks between Hezbollah and the IDF, as further escalation "carries a high risk of escalating into a full-scale conflict."
Israel, through its ambassador, has once again demanded that the Lebanese people confront Hezbollah, or else the country will continue to descend into chaos. Peaceful Lebanese are thus becoming hostages of an endless armed confrontation.
Hadi Hashem, Lebanon's Permanent Representative to the UN:
"Israel does not spare civilian infrastructure in its aggression. Israeli bombing has disabled dozens of hospitals. The Masnaa checkpoint, which is the main crossing point between Lebanon and Syria and is used by thousands of Lebanese and Syrians fleeing the horrors of aggression, has been closed. Israel has shelled the main aqueduct of the Litani River, which is used to irrigate large agricultural areas. They have targeted the area around the Roman archaeological site of Baalbek, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We ask ourselves, what military benefit does all this bring?"
At the same time, Israel and Lebanon continue to exchange missile strikes. According to the latest reports, the death toll from the IDF attack on Beirut has risen to 22 people, 117 are wounded. The IDF has hit a field hospital on the Syrian-Lebanese border.
