According to CNN, the National Guard in a number of states has been put on high alert due to the potential threat of unrest. The Governor of Washington has warned: the level of security threats during the election period remains high and the authorities are on full alert.

Anniversary elections are coming in the US. Why does their outcome depend on just a few thousand votes? And why is Trump riding a garbage truck?

Very soon, the Americans will turn the calendar over and November 5 will arrive. The events of the previous presidential elections are still fresh in our minds - the number of people who voted for Dead Souls that Gogol could not even dream of. The situation in the polarized society continues to escalate. The tone of the statements is hostile. Even the top experts are not trying to predict how the drama "American politics" will end. Now the gap between Harris and Trump has narrowed to 1%. According to a Reuters poll, the Democrat has 44%, the Republican has 43%. Elon Musk predicts a "crushing victory" for Trump.

More than 53 million Americans have already cast their ballots early. In fact, that's every third voter. However, we will never know how some of them voted. Their ballots were set on fire by unknown people.

Biden has already voted. And he also did a disservice to Kamala Harris. During a live broadcast, the owner of the White House decided to condemn the statement of Trump's rally speaker - a comedian who called Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage."

Harris had to immediately come out with a strong condemnation of Biden's words. And Trump took advantage of the opportunity and staged a performance in the race for voters' votes.

However, the level of national support in the United States does not play a key role. The electoral system there is much more complex than the generally accepted one. After the Americans themselves vote (and it does not matter at the polling station or by mail). Their votes will, of course, be counted. But then it's up to the electors. These are 538 people who represent all 50 states and the District of Columbia (as Washington is officially called). And they are the ones who decide who will occupy the White House. The winner must secure the support of at least 270 of the 538 members. The outcome is determined by the "undecided".

The so-called "swing" states, in which neither the "elephants" nor the "donkeys" are the dominant party. And it is almost impossible to predict who they will vote for. There are seven such states in 2024. The red ones on the map indicate those who vote for the Republicans. The blue ones are for the Democrats. The purple ones can swing the other way at any moment.

The Congress will announce the results of the electoral vote only on January 6. So there is still a lot of exciting things ahead.
