China has approved the launch of the first autonomous flying taxis for commercial use, as reported by The Economic Times.
EHang Holdings and Hefei Hey Airlines have received permits from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). These flying taxis, which are unmanned passenger drones, will soon be utilized for city tours and various passenger services.
EHang plans to employ its EH216-S model for air taxis, tourism, airport transfers, and inter-island transportation. This development follows the receipt of operator certificates, marking a significant milestone in the growth of China's low-altitude economy, projected to reach 1.5 trillion yuan by 2025.
