EU extends sanctions against Moldovan opposition
The European Union has extended sanctions against the Moldovan opposition. In particular, the head of Gagauzia, Eugenia Gutsul, has fallen under them. The reason was close ties with Russia and “a threat to Moldova”.
The document was published in the official journal of the European Union. Gutsul strongly opposes the ideas of President Maia Sandu to unite with Romania. And she is actively building economicties with Russia.
The sanctions list also includes other well-known politicians of the autonomy, as well as the non-profit organization “Eurasia”, which “promotes the interests of Russia”, and its founder. The EU believes they are linked to opposition politician Ilan Sor. The Moldovan authorities recognized the party founded by him as unconstitutional.
