Working visit of Belarusian parliamentary delegation to South Africa
Belarus has become an observer country in the Pan-African Parliament. This became known during the working visit of the parliamentary delegation of our country to South Africa. The voice of Belarus was heard for the first time on the platform of one of the key bodies of the African Union.
The National Assembly of Belarus received an honorary status in such an authoritative international association after signing a memorandum of understanding. This is an important step in developing a dialogue on any issues that are of interest to Belarus and 55 African states.
This will give a new impetus to the development of inter-parliamentary relations, holding meetings and conferences. We have formed friendship groups of deputies directly in the National Assembly with countries such as Egypt, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Equatorial Guinea, South Africa, and one united group that includes several countries. I believe that the leaders of these groups will be part of the parliamentary delegation that will maintain contacts with the African parliament.
Africa is a region with enormous potential, and there is intense competition for the right to work in this market. Belarus has proven itself to be a reliable partner that skillfully builds cooperation on the principles of equality and mutual understanding. In addition, African countries have 25% of the votes in the UN, and strengthening political contacts with them through parliamentary diplomacy will help build a fair multipolar world.
