Belarus makes joint statement on behalf of like-minded states at 52nd session of UNIDO
The widening gap between developed and developing countries in the field of agricultural economy and food security requires international cooperation without obstacles.
This was stated by the Permanent Representative of Belarus to the international organizations in Vienna Andrei Dapkiunas, making a joint statement on behalf of like-minded states condemning the practice of using unilateral coercive measures.
"Technology transfer, capacity building, material support and technical assistance play a critical role in ensuring sustainable development. The situation is aggravated by the impact of unilateral coercive measures applied by some states and regional organizations without the permission of the relevant UN body, as well as due to excessive compliance with such measures by businesses and other stakeholders," said Andrei Dapkiunas, Permanent Representative of Belarus to the International Organizations in Vienna. "In particular, we express serious concern that these illegitimate and illegal unilateral coercive measures and trade restrictions, contrary to relevant WTO and other multilateral trade rules, have a direct impact on trade flows and create additional difficulties for states in their efforts to eliminate hunger and all forms of malnutrition and ensure food security." The authors of the statement expressed serious concern and categorical rejection of unilateral coercive measures, describing them as illegitimate and illegal. The statement notes that the sanctions are unprecedented and constitute a significant violation of international law, including the UN Charter.
