Alexander Lukashenko clearly explains why we are asking for military assistance
The President convened a meeting of the Security Council on December 12. The main news is that the country's defense plan for the next 5 years has been approved. It includes all areas: from the economy to the military component. The head of state described the situation around Belarus, which has changed for the worse. The destructive rhetoric of European countries towards us is growing, which indicates ongoing attempts to destabilize the domestic political situation in our country.
While they speculate on the topic that Belarus is arming itself to the teeth and is dependent on Russia, we are not hiding anything. Alexander Lukashenko clearly argued why we are strengthening cooperation and asking for military assistance from an ally: NATO exercises, the deployment of missiles by the US and Germany, the exorbitant spending on weapons by Poland and Lithuania (at some point, these neighbors began to bother us even more than Ukraine).
In addition, the situation on the southern borders of Belarus, unfortunately, remains very tense.
"The actions taken by the Ukrainian leadership towards our country are also not of a peaceful nature," emphasized State Secretary of the Security Council Oleksandr Volfovich. "We are accused of having created some groups (cover, reinforcements) on the southern borders. Five years ago, we did not guard the southern borders at all (we are talking about using military contingents in addition to border guards. - Ed.), because Ukraine was considered our neighbor, a country that does not pose a threat to our republic. And we are accused of having created some groups on the southern borders that threaten the security of Ukraine."
The number of Belarusian groups in the southern direction, according to him, is several times smaller than on the Ukrainian side. After all, there is a group of about 15 thousand people near the state border with Belarus alone, including servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, police, internal troops and the National Guard. "And if you look at the operational depth, then about 100-110 thousand servicemen are located near our southern border," emphasized Alexander Volfovich.
