Belarus brings together more than 600 participants from 45 countries to discuss Eurasian security
Minsk once again acted as a platform for discussion, the topic: security. More than six hundred participants from 45 countries gathered in Belarus for negotiations at the level of diplomats and experts. The head of state also spoke at the second Minsk conference on Eurasian security.
Alexander Lukashenko outlined his vision of the existing problems and ways to solve them. Belarus advocates the creation of a common space of trust between the West and the global majority. How do those who live and work in the West feel about this? Representatives of Norway, France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, Great Britain, Hungary, Switzerland, the Vatican, Poland attended the meeting.
Minsk, as a negotiating platform, is recognized by everyone, even if they themselves find themselves there for the first time
Glen Diesen, professor at the South-Eastern University of Norway:
"Lukashenko is the President of the country. This is a reality, whether Washington likes it or not. I am sure that he has done a lot of good for his country. And this should not be subject to sanctions. It is a pity that some serious politicians sometimes behave like 12-year-old girls. Diplomacy is something completely different".
Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary:
"I mean, look, what I see is that the liberal mainstream in Brussels cannot digest if a country adheres to sovereignty. And we, Hungarians, are like that. We adhere to our own sovereignty. We are not ready to give up even a small part of it. Although there is pressure from outside, some forces inside the country to give up. At least part of sovereignty, but we are not ready for this. And this, as I understand it, the Brussels mainstream cannot digest. But you have to live with it. We were in power in Hungary because the people trust us, because the people voted for us, and this is the essence of democracy."
Another problem, which, of course, does not add security to the world, is the migration crisis. Belarus knows very well what it means to contain these flows for decades. Especially when the East is not helped to recover, but on the contrary, everything is done so that it does NOT recover. So why should Minsk take on the burden of the consequences?
"If we talk about the migration crisis, we are absolutely not guilty of anything. Before the economic massacre was unleashed against us and in the media, we cooperated with the European Union. The European Union asked us to build shelters for migrants who would go through Belarus. We concluded a readmission agreement. We agreed with the Russians, because it does not work unilaterally. We started working," Alexander Lukashenko recalled how cooperation with the EU in this area began to develop.
"They introduced economic sanctions, put a rope around our necks and started strangling us. And they said: you protect us from migrants. Maybe I said it undiplomatically, but I said it directly and frankly: guys, we will not protect you. We will not, as before, catch them on this border. For many reasons: you destroyed states in the Middle East, you strangled Africa (instead of helping Africa get back on its feet, you began to mercilessly exploit them, introduced neocolonialism), you started a war in Afghanistan, Iraq and so on, destroyed these states. And then the civilized West, due to the fact that there was no one to work in Germany, France and other countries, called these people to itself. And they went," the President noted. "I emphasize once again: you invited these unfortunate people to your place, and today you declared them a hybrid threat and are racking your brains over plans to deport them. But you haven't figured out who will work in their place yet. I don't want to give any advice, but I will say one thing: if you invited them, provide employment and equal conditions with your citizens, figure out whether they can live with you or not," the head of state added.
