Lukashenko and Mezentsev discuss agenda of upcoming Union State Supreme State Council
Less than a day remains before the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State in Minsk with the participation of the Presidents of Belarus and Russia. Speaking in the language of "politics" - this is one of the key annual events that allows you to compare notes on how "in the moment" and "globally" things are going in Belarusian-Russian relations.
Here are the economic issues - in the last few years we have been getting closer very quickly, and security issues - a lot is dictated by the geopolitical situation, and ordinary everyday moments: borders, documents, roaming.
At the Supreme State Council, all this is not just discussed, specific decisions are made on the shortcomings, proposals, projects, or the heads of state give corresponding instructions.
The President explained that he gathered the Belarusian delegation for the meeting primarily to hear their position on observing the interests of Belarus. And this concerns not only the upcoming meeting of the Supreme State Council, but also Belarusian-Russian relations in general.
"These are the issues in the sphere of economy, national security, other problems and, in particular, those issues that will be considered at the general meeting," Alexander Lukashenko specified. He drew attention to the fact that a representative Russian delegation, including the country's leadership and members of the Government, will participate in the meeting of the Supreme State Council. "This is the case when we can and should discuss the problems that exist in our relations," the Head of State said. "There are problems that must be resolved at this stage."
Agenda of the Supreme State Council
The agenda of the Supreme State Council is quite extensive. It is clear that the integration interaction of the two countries is primarily economic. Joint ventures, their integration into common production chains. The sanctions have shown that the word "independence" has many meanings that are not only political.
At the same time, as Alexander Lukashenko emphasized, despite all the problems, various unresolved issues, this year the trade turnover between the countries will reach 59 billion - 60 billion dollars, including goods and services. This, according to the President, is a historically high figure.
"But, I say again, there are issues to which we have special attention and great interest," said Alexander Lukashenko.
Another document that promises to be a serious reason for discussion tomorrow is the "concept of security of the Union State". The news feeds have already reported that the preparatory work has been completed, and both leaders have given their approval. The President discussed not only these topics with the State Secretary of the Union State today.
The President held a meeting with the State Secretary of the Union State
The President drew attention to the fact that the economy is the foundation of any relationship. "We have a number of fundamental issues that we should probably resolve together with Russia next year. Much has already been done in this direction, these issues have been worked out. We need to make a decision. But if a decision has already been made, then it must be implemented promptly. There should be no bureaucratic red tape. And then, when a decision has been made, there should be no misunderstandings. We will discuss such issues with Vladimir Vladimirovich tomorrow and today, if necessary, - said Alexander Lukashenko. - The agenda is extensive, the questions have been prepared, but perhaps there are some nuances, so let's discuss them today."
So let's discuss. The substantive agenda consists of 10 questions. In principle, all the questions have been very carefully worked out. The agenda is truly multifaceted, agreed upon by the parties. Of course, we want some of the questions to be discussed, so that the parties can speak out on some of the issues that are traditional, but at the same time substantive. I would like to ask you to allow me to report very briefly and propose that you and Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin sign the issues without discussion.
