General Motors to lay off nearly 1,000 workers to cut costs
The US automaker General Motors is laying off nearly 1,000 workers worldwide in an effort to streamline its business.
Most of the layoffs will affect staff in North America.
The need arose due to planned cost-cutting as the company is still struggling to compete with other manufacturers in the crowded global auto market.
General Motors already laid off over 1,000 workers in August, but it was not enough. The auto giant faces a number of challenges, including slowing sales in the US and difficulties in the Chinese market, as well as the need to rethink its strategy for electric vehicles due to their slow growth among consumers.
