Lithuania to start dismantling power lines with Belarus and Russia in spring 2025

Lithuania will start dismantling power lines with Belarus and Russia in the spring of 2025. This was announced by the operator of power grids of the Baltic republic Litgrid, writes TASS.
“All lines on the Russian and Belarusian directions will be disconnected on February 8, when the power supply agreement within the framework of the unified power system of Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (BRELL) will be terminated. Following this, the demolition of unnecessary infrastructure will begin in the spring,” Litgrid said in a statement.
This week, the Lithuanian government excluded power lines with Belarus and Russia from the list of objects that are important for national security, BelTA informs.
We are talking about seven 330-kVa lines. The start of operation of the Lithuanian power grid in synchronous mode with European partners is scheduled for February 9, 2025.
The Ministry of Energy of Belarus previously emphasized that the decision to withdraw from the BRELL energy ring, taken by the Baltic States in favor of political interests, is not technically and economically feasible. “Its consequences will primarily affect the consumers of these states,” the ministry pointed out.
