Production of Mozartkugeln closed in Austria
The European economic crisis has reached the famous Mozartkugeln or Mozart Balls in Austria. The chocolate factory where the sweets named after Mozart were produced has closed. Salzburg Chocolate company had been producing the popular sweets since 1897. But during the pandemic it faced financial problems and could not resist the rising cost of raw materials and energy. The production dropped from 12,000 tons of candy a year to about a ton. Now the factory will be moved to another country, possibly Poland or the Czech Republic. And only confectionery, which is owned by the descendants of the inventor of the original candy will remain in Salzburg. They will no longer be mass-produced here.
