Protest against destruction of monuments grows stronger in Latvia, but so far to no avail
Politicians in the country have turned the fight against monuments into a propaganda campaign.
In Latvia, the protest against the destruction of monuments has taken shape and is growing stronger. The local society of art historians, supported by the unions of composers, cinematographers, artists and others, has expressed its disagreement with the policy of the authorities. All these creative unions are convinced that desovietization is being carried out in an inept manner and leads to the degeneration of the cultural environment. In addition, the process has been saddled with politicians, who have turned the fight against monuments into an agitation campaign. However, the cultural workers were immediately shouted down. A statement was made by the Memory Center, a state structure that makes sure that no one deviates from the government line.
All opponents of the demolition of monuments were called idiots and agents of the Kremlin, and ordered them to immediately return under the banner of state vandalism.
