Moldova is actively adopting Western values on its way to the EU. Thus, the freedom of speech has once again come under attack. In the run-up to the elections, the country banned criticizing President Sandu and demanding a ban on LGBT in the media. The Council for Television and Radio did not like that the leader of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin accused the authorities of corruption and incompetence, and the head of “Our Party” Renato Usatii advocated a ban on LGBT propaganda in schools. The agency called on parties and candidates to use free airtime in the media only to present their election programs, not to criticize their opponents. Opposition representatives called these actions censorship in the media and arbitrariness of the authorities.
