Politico: NATO wants to use satellite communications networks in the Arctic

Politico reports on NATO's plans. The alliance wants to use satellite communication networks in the Arctic in order to strengthen defense against Russia.

The agreement was reached on the margins of a meeting of the alliance's defense ministers in Brussels.

The bloc agreed to promote an initiative called Northlink, which will use the existing commercial satellites.

Earlier, Russia said that Washington was pursuing a policy of militarizing the Arctic and preventing Russian economic activity in the northern latitudes.
