Lukashenko: Electricity is the future, especially nuclear energy
Expanding cooperation with the Sakhalin Region of Russia was discussed today during the negotiations between Alexander Lukashenko and the head of this island region. In general, cooperation with the Far East provides a good increase in Belarusian-Russian trade turnover. But this still does not fully correspond to our capabilities. As Alexander Lukashenko noted, within 5 years Belarus and Russia will be able to achieve almost complete import substitution. And targeted partnership with the regions is the solution to this problem. There is already a good foundation - from industry, joint ventures to microelectronics. And with Sakhalin, we are starting a large environmentally friendly project.
Cooperation with the Sakhalin Region is a clear example that nothing is impossible and no distances are an obstacle. We have many projects, but the following ones, as the governor himself said today, are super. This has never happened before.
Valery Limarenko has not yet visited Belarus as a governor. But he visited Belarus often when he was still the head of the Nizhny Novgorod company "Atomenergoproekt". He personally supervised the work on preparation for the construction of the first power unit of the Belarusian NPP, for which he was awarded gratitude from the President of Belarus.
The Belarusian NPP was built jointly with Rosatom. Limarenko participated in the development of a bilateral intergovernmental agreement between the countries and the general contract for its construction.
The plant turned out to be good, it works without problems. Therefore, today we are already thinking about what to do with the second nuclear power plant: to build it or not to build it. I think electricity is the future, especially nuclear energy. Therefore, we are seriously considering the construction of the second nuclear power plant. I thank you once again for the contribution you have made to the construction of this strategic investment project in Belarus.
Alexander Lukashenko noted that Valery Limarenko came to Belarus as the head of a large, interesting and very dear to us region of Russia.
Sakhalin Region is ready to buy even more special equipment. And it quite rightly insists on opening a service center.
"Agriculture and food, if you have any wishes in this regard, we are ready to work with you," said Alexander Lukashenko.
The President added that the Belarusian side is ready to develop cooperation in many other areas. "Distance does not matter at all, we will cooperate and work with you," he emphasized.
