The Estonian government has approved a proposal by Foreign Minister MargusTsahkna to ban residents from participating in events "held in the interests of Russia and Belarus in the territory of these countries", BELTA reports citing local media.
It is noted that the sanctions imply a ban on Estonian citizens and residents under 21 years of age from participating in and organizing events in Russia and Belarus. The Estonian Foreign Minister said that the general recommendation for young people is "not to travel to these countries and avoid participating in any events in Russia or Belarus." He stressed that the sanctions are not aimed at young people and children, but at event organizers and their supporters.
It is noted that the sanctions are deterrent in nature, but violators may face a fine or imprisonment for five years.
