The United States has recognized the current government of Venezuela, Trump announced.
The United States has officially recognized the current government of Venezuela, US President Donald Trump announced, according to RIA Novosti.
"I am pleased to announce that this week we formally recognized the government of Venezuela. We have legally recognized them," he said at the Shield of the Americas Summit.
On the night of January 3, the United States launched a military operation against Venezuela, during which President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured and brought to New York for trial on drug trafficking charges. According to Venezuelan authorities, the bombing of Caracas and other areas killed at least 100 people and wounded approximately the same number of military and civilian personnel. Following the capture of their leader, the two countries' authorities are negotiating a new bilateral agenda, including cooperation in combating drug trafficking, the release of Venezuelan funds, the sale of the South American country's oil, and the resumption of diplomatic dialogue.
