Should a second nuclear power plant be built in Belarus or not? The country might make a decision as early as 2025, the Ministry of Energy noted.
In the meantime, the study of the issue is ongoing. This work is being carried out not only by the Ministry of Energy, but also by a wide range of specialists, including the Ministry of Economy and the Academy of Sciences. Both current energy consumption and prospects for the coming years and decades are being analyzed. Based on the results of the analysis, a report is planned for the government and the President.
The Ministry of Energy added that in addition to building a second nuclear power plant, other options are also being studied. These could be "nuclear boiler houses", and small modular reactors, and 600 megawatt units, which Rosatom is currently developing and planning to implement. It is important for Belarus that the technologies have already been tested and verified.
