Korotchenko: TNW is security against unleashing major aggression against Union State
Why the topic of returning tactical nuclear weapons to the territory of Belarus still worries the West ? The program "Main Air" asked it the Russian military expert, editor-in-chief of the magazine "National Defense" Igor Korotchenko to comment.
In accordance with the decision of two presidents, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko, Russian tactical nuclear weapons, tactical-class nuclear warheads, are located on the territory of Belarus, the expert recalled. "The Belarusian armed forces have units that are equipped with the appropriate carriers, with the use of which these tactical nuclear weapons can be used in certain conditions. Firstly, these are missile brigades equipped with Iskander-M operational-tactical missile systems, which can use special ammunition, as well as a number of aircraft from the Belarusian Air Force, which are adapted and modernized for the use of nuclear weapons," the military analyst explained. In his opinion, this insures the Union State against the unleashing of major armed aggression against it. "Because a potential aggressor, realizing that even if it starts a war against Russia, against Belarus using conventional armed forces, in accordance with the new doctrinal guidelines, we can respond with a tactical nuclear strike on military targets on the territory of a NATO aggressor country, either providing its territory for aggression, or from where strikes are carried out using high-precision weapons, such as a cruise missile (for example, air or sea-based). Therefore, this is a factor of stability, firstly," noted Igor Korotchenko.
"Secondly, this is insurance against the unleashing of major aggression, since NATO countries, and our neighbors, such as Lithuania, Germany, the Baltic countries, others besides Lithuania and Poland, now understand that if they suddenly unleash aggression, they will face a retaliatory nuclear strike. This is a serious factor that cools the hot heads in Warsaw, in Berlin. And in other European capitals of NATO member countries," the military expert stated.
