Volfovich: Belarus demonstrates initiative to solve problem of illegal migration
Belarus demonstrates initiative to solve the problem of illegal migration. This was stated by the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus on the sidelines of an international conference.
On November 15, Minsk once again became an international political expert platform for discussing issues of illegal migration. The problem has reached a global level and today is primarily engulfing Europe. In order to find solutions, we need to sit down at the negotiating table and work out constructive joint steps.
"The problem of illegal migration today has gone beyond secondary issues, some private issues, and has already really reached the global level. And today it is engulfing. This problem today is engulfing primarily Europe," said Alexander Volfovich, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus.
"Today, we annually record over one and a half thousand detentions of illegal migrants on our border. Last year, we stopped about 60 channels of illegal migration. Over 170 leaders, initiators, coordinators who were involved in these issues were detained. The prosecutor's office has opened over 100 criminal cases on these issues. That is, we are dealing with these issues. But the figures, I just voiced them a few days ago, the figures that speak of what is happening on the other side of Europe, on the side of the Mediterranean Sea, over 380 thousand migrants". And today at the forum the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs noted that back in 2022, Belarus and Poland were visited by the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of migrants. After that, a package of proposals was formed to solve the problem. But as a result, there was not a single attempt from the EU neighboring countries to establish communication with the Belarusian side.
