17th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition to start on October 28
On October 28, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will give a ceremonial start to the 17th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition.
In 2024, 14 people will go to the South Pole under the leadership of an experienced polar explorer, participant of all previous expeditions Alexei Gaidashov. Last season, an experienced team of scientists and technical personnel spent almost six months on the ice continent, conducting research at the Belarusian Antarctic Station. These are atmospheric physics, ozone layer monitoring, biology, geophysics, seismology, ecology and other main researches.
Antarctica is an ideal example of unbiased and constructive relations between different states. The importance of the development of the unique continent is on a par with such large-scale goals as space exploration, development of nuclear energy, counteraction to pandemics. And Belarus is taking the most active part in this.
