Solemn Services and Prayers in Churches: Orthodox Believers Await Christmas
Today, the atmosphere is truly magical. Christmas Eve is filled with the aroma of anticipation for the Great Feast of the Nativity of Christ. More and more people are gathering in the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow." Orthodox believers come to the church with their families, friends, and loved ones to share the joy of the approaching holiday in God's house. Christmas hymns have been resounding here since early morning, and the liturgies are held.
Tomorrow, January 7, the entire Orthodox world will celebrate the event that occurred more than two thousand years ago, which marked the beginning of a new era—the Nativity of Christ. Today is the eve of the great holiday, Christmas Eve. Today is also the last day of the fast, which believers have traditionally observed since November 28.
Of course, the main aspect of preparing for Christmas is not so much adhering to established gastronomic rules, but rather spiritual preparation and a sense of unity with Christ the Savior. It is much more important to leave behind worldly concerns, immerse oneself in reading the Holy Scriptures, and meet the bright holiday in the church with peace.
