Lithuania denounces customs cooperation agreements with Belarus
Lithuania has denounced the agreement on customs cooperation with Belarus.
The document (which regulates customs relations for almost 20 years) will cease to be in force from May 27, 2025. This has now been officially notified by the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry to the Embassy of Belarus in this country.
It should be noted that the document defined many areas, from customs control and information exchange to joint operations against drug trafficking. But (as emphasized in our Customs Committee) the Lithuanian side completed the actual cooperation 2.5 years ago. And despite this unfriendly and demonstrative step, Belarusian customs offered possible options of cooperation, which Lithuania ignored until the last.
It is obvious that the position is determined not by the control bodies at the border, but by Lithuanian politicians who are not in favor of interaction between our countries.
