"We continue moving towards peace" - Participants on Eurasian security conference
About 150 journalists from different countries and the same number of independent experts on politics and national security attended the II Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security.
Experts shared their views and opinions on how we can build our future in the face of constant challenges.
William Jones, former head of the Washington bureau of the EIR NEWS SERVICE (USA):
"What was discussed these days in Minsk is important not only for European countries, but also for the United States of America. The United States is involved in a large number of serious armed conflicts. Moreover, we are practically on the brink of a nuclear war. And this issue is especially important right now, when the election campaign is underway in the United States. There are several ways to resolve this situation. We discussed this in Minsk. How can we find a way out of this situation? I want to bring the answers to this question to the United States."
"We want to advance an agenda that takes into account the interests of the largest players in Eurasia, medium-sized states, so that not only, well, the dominant, let's say, forces represented by the collective West determine where the world is going. Moreover, we see that with development, with the direction of the problem, in fact, the world is heading towards a dead end under the leadership of the collective West of the United States. It is important to find new models. How do we see the world? How do we see this fair world order? What real steps can we offer, including to the West, to avoid a major war?", believes Alexey Dzermant, a political scientist.
Herve Juven, an independent expert, a member of the European Parliament from the National Rally party (France):
"We must work not only on cultural and civilizational diversity, but also on the diversity of political systems, legislative, economic and humanitarian systems. Diversity has many meanings, and we must preserve this diversity. Thanks to this forum, we continue to move towards preserving peace."
"Poland's place in the large Eurasian space. The interests of both Poland and Belarus are connected with Eurasia. This conference brings together specialists, politicians, the global majority. Not an alternative world, but a world that is objectively growing and developing," says Tomasz Grygucz, a political scientist (Poland).
Tamas Jeno Szekeres, a member of the Bulgarian Renaissance Party, coordinator for international cooperation:
"The President of Belarus, Mr. Lukashenko, he is simply a model. And he is in office for already the thirtieth year. The thirtieth year. He simply saved Belarus. He saved Belarus from what happened in Bulgaria or Ukraine."
"I believe in dialogue, I believe in keeping the channels of communication open. And I think it's tragic that a new iron curtain has emerged. After all, just recently we were breaking down borders, establishing communication, establishing connections. Including in the educational sphere, academic. Natural economy, trade," said Richard Sakwa, an emeritus professor at the University of Kent (UK). "And today everything has stopped, the borders are closed. I believe that if we can understand each other, communicate, then the process of breaking down these borders will begin again."
