What does genocide mean for Belarusians and what lessons of the past should be learned for a peacefu
The whole world pays tribute to the memory of the victims of genocide. The terrible pages of history are forever immortalized in the date of December 9.
On this day 76 years ago, in the post-war year of 1948, the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide was adopted. This is the first human rights treaty adopted by the UN General Assembly. All 193 participating countries confirmed their intention to protect the population from genocide and incitement to it.
But what is happening in modern realities obviously contradicts the idea. Today, the West uses the crimes of the Nazis as an example, trying to rewrite history,
Belarus remembers all the atrocities committed on its land and seeks to ensure that each punisher is punished as he deserves. This is also the goal of the investigation of the criminal case on genocide, which is being conducted by the Prosecutor General's Office.
AnzhelikaKurchak, member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus:
"We see that the neo-Nazi sentiment is reviving, reviving in those countries whose territory was abundantly watered with blood when it was liberated from Nazism and fascism. There is always hope that humanity will come to its senses. Our country in particular is currently demonstrating its peace-loving policy and calling on everyone to come to an agreement, to calm down. Belarusisbecoming aplatformforsuchnegotiations."
